Castle of Azay-le-Ferron

Castle of Azay-le-Ferron

The Castle of Azay-le-Ferron is nestled in a vast and sumptuous park. Its  owes its originality to its two garden styles: one part English garden, one part French garden.

The French garden has a collection of topiary inspired by pieces of a chess board. This collection, reputed to be among the most beautiful in France, complements the boxwood in front of the castle, adding a touch of refinement.

The English garden, designed by the Bühler brothers starting in 1856, offers a natural landscape and the impression of freedom, serenity and calm. Even if they seem to be there by chance, the trees were all carefully placed to create vistas and inviting winding alleys.

A “discovery trail” was especially arranged to appreciate the various aspects of the park. Continue the visit in the rose garden filled entirely with breeds from the 17th century, the vegetable garden, vine garden and the orchard.
