The Chateau de Taize lies in the heart of southern Burgundy between Tournus and Cluny.
It was built in the 17th century by the Marquises of Huxelles to demonstrate their wealth and power, with a wide moat, turrets, gunports and drawbridge.
In 1980, after being abandoned for many years the castle has been resored and has gained much praise for its authentic restoration.
The gardens have been recreated over 11 hectares and includes flowerbeds, groves, box maze, aviary, theatre, water features and fountains. This “pleasure garden” is now listed among the finest in France.
Since 1982 Taize also takes part in a festival of theater, “The Rendez-Vous de Taize.”
Every summer, nearly 40 performances are delivered to more than 12,000 spectators, a variety of authors, from Aristophanes to Moliere.
