Golf du Rhin

Golf du Rhin

Golf du Rhin enjoys a privileged location, right in the middle of a nature reserve on an island between the Rhine and the Grand Canal d’Alsace. Having been given so much by nature, the inclination is to want to give back in return. “We are the first golf club in France to have received the GEO Certified™ Award,” says club director Michel Zimmerlin with justifiable pride. In concrete terms, this means that the golfers of Chalampé have a “green spirit” and stand for sustainability and protecting the environment.

Golf du Rhin is an esteemed course among golfers. Thanks to its porous subsurface and a favourable microclimate, the course’s 18 flags flutter in winter, too. The course is playable all year round. It offers golfers plenty of challenges. The fairways are rather narrow, calling for players to apply precision. As such, the course tends to favour clever tacticians. This is also true of the signature hole, fairway 18 (par 4, 386 metres). The green is well defended by a fairway bunker and a water hazard. Two fountains in a small pond shoot water high into the air,Â- a wonderful sight.

Many fairways also offer a fine view of the Black Forest and the Vosges mountains. Two internationally renowned architects designed the fairways amid the ancient trees: Donald Harradine set the standard in 1969, and Reinhold Weishaupt introduced a few modifications in 2003. Their work is enjoyed and appreciated by golfers from three countries: France, Germany and Switzerland.
