La Cite de la Mer

La Cite de la Mer

La Cité de la Mer – a family attraction all about man’s adventures on and under the sea.

Permanant exhibitions include:

TITANIC, RETURN TO CHERBOUR:  In 2012 La Cité de la Mer was extended, to house the exhibition that is unique in France. The exhibition  “Titanic, return to Cherbourg”, tells the history of European emigration to the New World and about the legendary liner that called at Cherbourg on 10th April 1912.

LE REDOUTABLE: The largest submarine, open to the public, in the world! Try your hand at being a submariner as you embark on Le Redoutable. Once you have gone through the massive doors, armed with your audio guide, you’re inside the submarine Le Redoutable. This jewel of the French Navy, the first in a set of six SSBNs (Submersible Ships, Ballistic, Nuclear-powered), was launched in Cherbourg on 29th March 1967 by General de Gaulle.

THE GREAT GALLERY OF MEN AND MACHINES: A unique collection of manned craft, epitomising deep-sea diving.
