Chartres Cathedral is a magnificent example of Medieval Gothic architecture. Building started in 1145 but after a fire in 1194, it took 26 years to rebuild, with restoration still on-going today.
Many outstanding features can be found in the Cathedral including the large nave, the widest in France, majestic columns, fine sculptures and carvings and magnificent stained glass windows.
During the summer months (May to September) there is a light show illuminating both the Cathedral and other landmarks around the city set to music.
